We are saddened to announce that Henry Craig Harms passed away on Wednesday, April 17th, 2024, at his home in Surrey, B.C., at the age of 68.
Craig will be deeply missed by many, including his family and friends and his daughter, Katie, who he was deeply proud of. He is survived by two brothers, John Leonard and Albert. He was predeceased by his parents, Sara (Sally) and John Harms, and his younger brother Gilbert Harms.
Craig, as he was known to most, was born in Winkler, Manitoba, on May 18th, 1955. Born into a family with three brothers, he spent many years playing and working on the family farm.
Into his adulthood, he went on to study at numerous institutions, and became an Engineering Technologist on paper, but he was a jack-of-all-trades in real life. He worked all over the world, in countries including Canada, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, just to name a few.
Craig was the owner of his company, Craig Technical Services, and was skilled at all things relating to technology, including electronics, welding, woodworking, metalworking, and engineering. If you needed something fixed, whether it be a wood cutting board, a curling iron, or even a pocket knife, Craig was able to fix it given the time and tools which he had at his home. Many of his neighbors recall his helpful and caring nature, and note that he was the first and only person to snow blow the cul-de-sac when the snow fell, so that folks had a path to safely exit their driveways.
Not only did Craig enjoy tinkering in his garage and creating, he was an avid fisherman who spent many summers with his family fishing in Port Hardy, B.C. If he wasn’t working on his motorcycles, he was tinkering on the boat motor in the backyard or machining something on the lathe. Craig will be remembered as a logical, hardworking and kind man, who was always willing to help and lend a hand.
Please join us for Craig’s Celebration of Life, which will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Port Kells Community Hall, 18918 88 Ave, Surrey, B.C.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made out to Quatse River Fish Hatchery (Northern Vancouver Island Salmonid Enhancement Association) in Craig’s honour.

Gone Fishing

If someone should ask for me,
tell ‘em heaven is where I’ll be.
I’ve finished all my life’s chores,
and now I fish on heaven’s shores.

The view is grand and the fishing’s great,
but I yearn for you as I wait:
I’ll save a spot on the river’s bend,
for all those, I call family and friend.

But for now, head out to sea
and make a cast in memory,
to all the good times that you had
with me- your friend, your grandpa...your dad.

And if the fish no longer bite
or seem no longer worth the fight,
because it’s me that you are missin’,
don’t worry – be glad – I’ve only gone fishin’.

Was going through my memory box today and found love letters you sent to me…..from Saudi Arabia and the Hilton International Lahore….not to mention other places. I wanted to catch up….so I did a google search.
Remember when we’d catch up in Winnipeg….as I lived in Switzerland. I’m now in Australia.
I’m devastated with what the google search came up with!
Hey Craig. WTF!?
That New Year’s Eve we spent in Winnipeg was a blast! My mom lambasted me for it! Lol.
I even have a pic you sent me with your family sitting outside.
I’ll catch you on the other side! You are one awesome guy!
And I’ll be disappointed if you’re not there for a hug when I get there!

"...the trouble is, you think you have time..."
Rest in peace, old friend. Condolences to Craig's family.
