An honourable send-off respects the person as a unique individual being. The body that remains after a death is still an individual. Although changed, that person and their memory deserve to be treated with the utmost respect. Each person is someone who loved, shared their life with others, and was individually unique. In a very practical way, performing a burial (either full body or cremated remains) allows the deceased to finally rest in peace. The events that led to the person’s death and the days following the death are finally completed when the deceased loved one is placed into their grave. The family can rest knowing that the person’s journey is complete.
A burial plot, mausoleum crypt or niche space, gives the deceased a place of their own. Being a unique person, they deserve to have their own place of permanence. Epitaphs, markers and memorials all add to the importance of that individual and help to tell their story.
