Chu, Alfred

11/15/2019

November 10, 2019
Alfred was born in Hong Kong and later moved to England to pursue his studies. In 1975, upon returning to Hong Kong, he started his work with the Hong Kong Corrections and after 13 years, left the service as Principal Officer when he immigrated to Canada.

Arriving in Canada in 1988, Alfred started his work as a Legal Interpreter before joining BC Corrections in 1990. He spent 23 years with BC Corrections before retiring in 2013. He was passionate about his work and took pride in being part of the team.

During this time, Alfred was a member of the Provincial Honour Guard and the Surrey Pretrial Services Centre Local Honour Guard.  He represented the branch and the centre on many occasions such as the National Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Parade in Ottawa, BC Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Parade (now the British Columbia Law Enforcement Parade) in Victoria and Vancouver, the Washington State Law Enforcement Memorial Parade in Olympia and several funeral and memorial services of staff and retired staff member. Additionally, Alfred was honoured to receive the Canadian Corrections Exemplary Service Medal in 2012.

The wonderful memories of Alfred and his love will forever be cherished by his wife Pauline, his daughters Victoria & Marie, son-in-law Ray, grandsons Gabriel & Michael and his many relatives and friends.

Alfred will always be fondly remembered for his unwavering faith, consistent praying of the rosary and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, love of marching, always providing a helping hand, off-roading adventures and his shiny boots.
