Oprea, Carmen

It is with broken and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Carmen Oprea on February 7, 2022, at the age of 72. Carmen was predeceased by her parents, Nicolae and Constanta. She is survived by her husband George, her brother Vlad, her sons Tudor and Bogdan (Joanna), and her grandchildren William and James.
Carmen, along with her husband and children, emigrated from Romania to Canada in 1989. She was a very kind and compassionate person, and always wore a smile. She made friends quickly and went out of her way to help other people. She was an avid reader and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She worked at the University of British Columbia as a chemical engineering researcher for most of her career.
She will be dearly missed. A Service of Remembrance will be held for Carmen on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, from 11 am to 12 pm at the Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church, 220 Carnarvon Street, New Westminster. Gifts of flowers are gratefully accepted and should be delivered to the church 30 minutes before the service. Or, in lieu of flowers, we gratefully suggest donations in her memory to the BC Cancer Foundation.
