Zemianski, Gladys Margaret
June 12, 1950 – May 5, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gladys Zemianski (née Plett), loving wife, mother and grandmother, who passed away peacefully at her home in Surrey, British Columbia, after a brief battle with cancer, with her daughter by her side.
She leaves to mourn her daughters Jocelyn (Chad) and Alicia; her beloved granddaughters Abigail and Sophia; sisters Rose, Emily and Helen; brothers Menno, Randy and Brian; as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. Gladys was predeceased by her loving husband William (‘Bill’) of 54 years; her parents Abram and Anna Plett; sisters Laura and Edna; and brothers Art and Stan.
Gladys was born in Steinbach, Manitoba, and raised on a farm in Landmark, Manitoba. As a young woman she moved to Winnipeg and began working as a teller at Royal Bank. She later met Bill Zemianski, and they were married in 1970 at Prairie Rose EMC Church in Landmark, Manitoba.
Shortly after marrying, Gladys and Bill moved to Edmonton before returning to Winnipeg, where Jocelyn was born. In 1979 they moved to Saskatoon, where Alicia was born. In 1985 they moved to the Greater Vancouver area, settling first in Delta before moving to Boundary Park in Surrey in 1993.
Prior to retiring Gladys worked as a bookkeeper and office administrator with several companies in the Lower Mainland including GasMaster Industries and EPS WestCoast Construction.
She was an avid bridge player and gardener who took great pride in her home and flowers. Gladys especially loved family traditions and holidays, and often hosted large gatherings with close friends and extended family.
Gladys discovered a love of travel later in life and enjoyed exploring new places with Bill and family, including many cruises. A highlight was an Alaskan cruise in 2023 with her husband, daughters, and granddaughters.
In 2017, Gladys and Bill moved to Chelsea Gardens in Surrey, where she embraced community life, formed many friendships, enjoyed bridge groups and other social activities.
Gladys will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, hospitality, and devotion to family. Her love and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
As per Gladys’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
