Jeff’s heart stopped less than 24 hours after admission to hospital. Post influenza pneumonia led to rapid organ failure.
Jeff was predeceased by his father Clarence, birth mother Eileen, brother David, sister Kathy and his wife Susan. He is survived by his sons Jeremy and Jonathan (Hank),  partner Beth Raine Taggart, mother Mary, brother Jordan (Louise), in laws Ken Muis, Sharon (John) Adair, Jim (Nancy) Lees, Sandy (Rob) Papp and 16 nieces and nephews.
He attended Kitsilano Secondary, with a year of Quest at Prince of Wales. He then participated in the federal Katimavik program followed by a year at Universite Sainte Anne in Nova Scotia, then to the University of Ottawa for his BA and finally back home to UBC for his MSC. All this led to the field of Glaciology and a 27 year career as a geophysicist with Golder Associates. He retired in 2020.
His career took him to remote places all around the world. The one exception he often talked about was the North Pole when he missed out on a job there because he was weather bound in Baker Lake, Nunavut. All the travel made him treasure his home time with Susan, their boys, and their various pets.
Jeff was a gregarious person with a winning smile, inquisitive mind and welcoming personality. He was a natural leader and teacher. He was a pillar for his whole extended family, a solid rock in times of crisis and an entertaining companion. He had many lifelong friends and some new ones he met as he walked his 10,000 steps a day.
He was much loved and is greatly missed.
Our sincere thanks to Dr Karpov and the staff at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 9th at 2:00PM at the Robert H. Lee Alumni Centre, 6163 University Blvd., Vancouver, BC.
A Memorial Donation to Uniti (15306 24th Ave, Surrey BC. V4A 2J1) would be appreciated. https://uniti4all.com/

I am shocked and saddened to learn of Jeff's passing. I worked with him for many years - he was one of the good guys. My condolences to the family.
