August 10, 1934 - December 18, 2024
It is with much sorrow that we announce the passing of Ronald John Melnyk, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Ron passed away peacefully and went to be with his Lord at the age of 90. Ron was predeceased by Lavonne, his wife of 61 years, his father John, mother Jennie, sister Lorrane and brother Max. Ron is survived by his daughter Lori Ann, sons Ronnie and Rodney (Shawna), grandchildren Tyler (Natalie & baby Wyatt), Joel and Danika, and his sisters Pat and Marlene. Ron was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He married Lavonne in 1957, and they lived in Winnipeg until 1967, when they moved to Delta, British Columbia. In Winnipeg, Ron worked in the office at the Grain Exchange and B/A Oil, and managed his own Marshall Wells Hardware store. In B.C., he worked as manager of Olson Building Supplies and Century Plumbing & Heating. And he worked as a realtor, and in the plumbing and paint departments at Home Depot. Ron loved travelling, camping, canoeing, speed skating and music. As a teen, he won three Manitoba long track speed skating championships. In his late 50's in B.C., he joined the Burnaby Winter Club, doing short track speed skating, and participated in many local and out-of-town competitions. Music was a huge part of Ron's life, especially listening to Big Band music. His love of music led him and Lavonne to encourage all their children and grandchildren to play musical instruments. In the 1970's, Ron and Lavonne managed a community youth Big Band called Harry Mayfield's Music Makers. Ron accepted Jesus into his heart and life, and his favourite hymn was Amazing Grace. He served in the church as an usher for many years. A special thanks to the care staff at Laurel Place nursing home, who gave loving care to Ron and great support to the family.
A family graveside service took place in December 2024 at Heritage Gardens Cemetery.

It was an absolute pleasure my visit to BC and meeting Uncle Ron and family. He reminded me so much of my Dad (Max).
I hope my family finds peace in a lifetime of good memories.

Ron and Lavonne leave behind a beautiful legacy of God’s love through their children (and grandchildren).
Heaven seems a bit closer every day. May God keep the family in His great comfort and care. Love to you all….

I played trombone in the Music Makers in the 70s and fondly remember Ron, always positive and encouraging. My heart goes out to the family.
